2008: Final Words
I felt like it was only right to say a some final words to wrap up the year nicely, speaking of my own achievements (hey - it's my blog right?)
So heres a breif overview of my year...
On Febuary 8th i deejayed for DJ Ironik. I was extreamly overwhelmed when i first got the call about doing the night, being put alongside a guy like Ironik was a pretty big deal for me - the night was a smash. Further on in the year i've deejayed for Chipmunk, N-Dubz and Ultra.
On the 8th of March this year i began the DJ WM Weekly Podcast's, the initial reaction was crazy so this year i reached a nice round number of 40 episodes - of course carrying on into next year too! Don't forget the Podcast's are now on iTunes so please get involved and subscribe! Just type my name in the search area (DJ WM)
Rewind to August when i went up to KISS 100 in London to hang with DJ Swerve whilst he was doing his show, it was a brilliant experience, Swerve was the reason i began deejaying so to see him do his show live was pretty special!
In November of this year i won a very big title of 'Young DJ of The Year,' it's all still a blur and it's only just about sunk in that i actually won such a title, it means alot seriously, my life depends on music and I'm working so hard to get up to the top. Big shout out to Ben and Rob who run the award night - they really put in the work, also out to the cast of Hollyoaks who were down that night, very nice bunch of guys who had alot of nice words about my set.
November also held the KISS Academy, props to everyone at Arena 6 - Melissa, Wendy and everyone else, they put alot of effort into making the day a good'un! I got to show my skills off to Manny Norte, Swerve, Fader (Loose Cannons), N-Dubz and a whole bunch of people from the station - amazing day.
Theres just a few big things that i've been involved in this year. Trust me when i say that 09 is looking bigger already - watch this space!
Final thanks to all of you guys who have been supporting me, the blog and the Podcasts!
See you in 2000ANDMINE

2008 Run Down
Albums of The Year:
Lil Wayne had one of the most talked about album's of this year (apart from Kanye). He delivered in full flow with appearances from Jigga, Babyface, Kanye West and more. I loved this album, i still do love this album! Tracks that stood out for me include Lollipop, A Milli, Mr Carter and Comfortable which was my favourite.
Lupe Fiasco delivered 'The Cool' on January 21st. Lupe has such an individual style which i just love, his flow is sick, the production of his tracks are always tight too. Killer tracks included Superstar, The Coolest, Go-Go Gadget Flow, Gotta Eat, Hip Hop Saved My Life, Hi-Definition and Dumb It Down - wow there was alot of heat on that album!
The UK's very own Sway dropped his highly anticipated album 'The Signature LP' this album didn't dissapoint. Stand out tracks include F Ur X, Fit For A King, Silver & Gold, Saturday Night Hustle and Say It Twice.
Another hot rapper from the UK delivered a serious album this year, Kano dropped 140 Grime Street. Im usually not one for grime but man, this album was amazing! Featuring productions from Wiley, Skepta, Mikey J and of course DaVinChe. Stand out tracks: Hustler, Hunting We Will Go, I Like It, Anywhere We Go and Don't Come Around Here.
Saved the most talked about album till last. Never have i heard so much talk over one artist, talk more about this further down this blog entry but back to the album. Ok so it wasn't rapping but it was Kanye - that was enough to win me over! Stand out tracks include Love Lockdown, Heartless, Amazing, Robocop, Paranoid and Coldest Winter.Performance of The Year:
Despite the controversy of having a Hip Hop artist performing at Glastonbury this year Jay-Z showed the haters what Hip Hop is all about! He killed it hands down!
Most controversial topic of 2008:
People were doubting Kanye's album - 808's & Heartbreak. Personally i was waiting for something different, something fresh to come out of Hip Hop and this was it, just what i needed. Should Kanye really be singing? Should he really be so different with his fashion compared to other artists? HELL YES! WHY NOT? I think its really important to keep things different and individual and Kanye certainly did that with the album.
Best songs of 2008:
Hip Hop wise for me it had to be Jay-Z, T.I, Lil Wayne and Kanye West - 'Swagga Like Us' its weird, i can't remember any other track this year that's made such an impact on me, when i drop this in a club i can guarantee the crowd will go crazy - it's just one of those tracks.
Another Hip Hop choice HAS to be Lil Wayne's - A Milli, crazy beat, crazy flow - nuff said!
Another track from Weezy which has taken over my life and i have to say is my number 1 track on this year full stop is 'Comfortable' featuring Babyface and produced by Kanye, yeah it wasn't a single but still!
R&B wise I'm saying Estelle's 'American Boy'' i still love it and i still play it out. She really did it for the UK this year!
Artist of the Year:
Dizzee really did his thing this year. He had a number 1 single with 'Dance Wiv Me' which blew up everywhere in the Summer not to mention he had a sell out tour in Australia and the UK. His DJ, Semtex has been giving us the updates on his blog so check it out if you missed it! Big up Dizzee, no doubt there is more success in 09 waiting for him.Artists to look out for in 09:
This dude Kid Cudi is set to make some serious moves next year, you already know him of course from the massive 'Day N Night' check out 'Super Boo' i played it on Podcast #39 - it's massive. Also this man Wale, check out the W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E if you haven't already, i also played a new track 'Nike Boots' on Podcast #39 too!Overall 2008 was kinda big for music, here's to 09 for being even better!

Common Ft. Cee-Lo - Make My Day
I played this joint last week on the Podcast, number 38. For me its more of a summer track, who knows this could be a single he drops in the summer next year?
Here is Common and Cee-Lo (the other half of Gnarls Barkley) performing on Ellen in the US.

If you have it then why not follow me!?

Wiley - See Clear Now [Album]
'See Clear Now' is the forthcoming album from the UK's Wiley. It's taken alot of time for Wiley to get the recognition he fully deserves and it wasn't untill earlier in the year when 'Wearing My Rolex' dropped that his name became well known by everyone, the fact that it got daytime airplay and you couldn't go into a club without hearing it made this even stronger.
Last night i got the album sent over and boy it is HOT!!
Tracks to look out for: Wearing My Rolex (natrually), Cash In My Pocket, Summertime and See Clear Now which is crazy!!! I haven't had the chance to listen to it all yet so i might come back and add to this list!

Kanye Has Done It
I doubted this album for about 5 seconds, i can't get enough of it.
He also posted up this drawing for the stage plan of the '808's & Heartbreak Tour' in 2009... the dude doesn't stop!

Jay-Z Ft. Santogold - Brooklyn Go Hard [Video]
This track hit my inbox about a week and a half ago, for some reason i didn't open it untill last night (don't ask why, i don't know myself) but anyway this track is pure fire with Kanye on the beat and Santogold on the hook - she has a killer voice. This is taken from the forth coming 'Notorious' soundtrack.
You can hear the track in full on this weeks Podcast (#38)
EDIT: DAMN! I literally posted up this track this afternoon and already this is getting air play and a video has been made (not official.. i don't think)!

- Presenting with Neev & Jez Welham
- Station Sound
- Editing
- Basic Mixing with Justin Wilkes
- Advanced Mixing with DJ Swerve
- Q & A with Manny Norte
- Production with Lord Fader of The Loose Cannons
- Specialist show producing
There was also a suprise performance by N-Dubz, they performed I Swear, Ouch and Papa and killed it!!
Although some of the workshops such as the mixing & scratching ones were slightly basic for me it was still an experience to have people like Swerve teaching you and kinda fun to see peoples reactions when they were struggling to do a basic beat match and i straight up did it 1st try lol!

DJ Swerve
DJ Swerve is the reason why i got into deejaying, hes the reason im at where i am right now, he is my God. I've been lucky enough to meet him many times and sit in on his shows at KISS FM, he was also one of the judges at the competition i won, 'Are You The CK ONE' in November 07.
Last night on KISS he announced it would be his last ever Sunday Selecta show.. 'wtf' i thought?! He said their was good news to follow and he wasnt joking! He announced that he would be doing Monday-Thursday nights 9-11pm (used to just be Tuesday nights). This morning i got this sent....
'Just a quick message to let you know what the big announcement is.Starting
from tonight I will be on Kiss 9-11pm on Monday-Thursday, that's 4 shows a
week!I'm really excited about it and would love those of you who can to tune
into the first show tonight. The new format takes all the best bits from the
Tuesday show (mixes, special guests and exclusives) and adds a brand new
request section (the spirit of Sunday Selecta lives on!).The home page featuring my blog, tracklistings and cool videos can be found @www.totalkiss.com/swerve. You can also access the Kiss Kube to listen again to the latest show.Hope you can catch it!'Thats got to be one of the biggest promotions you can hope for right?!
Looks like KISS is making major changes, Dynamite MC has been dropped from Monday nights, Big Ted & Shortee Blitz from Wednesdays and MK from Thursdays, though Blitz and MK will have a Sunday night show replacing Sunday Selecta. Now wheres that WM show!?!

The Return of Q-Tip
I'm in the studio right now working on my latest mixtape, Volume 4 of the 'This Is How We Do' series but i had to take time out to listen to this baby which i've got my hands on - 'The Renaissance' the new album from Q-Tip. Old school meets New school, damn this album is insane, i can't stop bopping my head.
Its officially out on November 4th and its worth the wait!! It's exactly what i was expecting from him, he takes it back to his old roots.
He has just finished filming the video for the next single 'Move' my favourite track on the album.
Appearances include J Dilla, Norah Jones, D'Angelo, Raphael Saadiq and Amanda Diva.
November 4th - go cop it!

Young DJ of The Year 2008 [Pictures]
Just got sent a few very unattractive pictures (of me) through to my inbox from the award night last week... might as well post em!
MTV were in the building casting for the UK series of 'Super Sweet 16' funnily enough i bumped into the woman on the right again just last night as i was down at a Super Sweet 16 which they were filming, it was the most fake thing i have ever seen & extreamly scripted!
Award winning break dancers were in the place! They killed it!
Me getting introduced... my nerves all over the shot!
Eyes closed - always a good look!
Getting into it!
Big ups once again to 'The Eleven' for holding such a great night!

Estelle Ft. Sean Paul - Come Over [Video]
It's a great track no doubt and the video isn't too bad either!

What A Weekend!
Heres the lowdown...
Friday night was all about 'Fresh' at Winkers, i was deejaying with Ultra MC, he had that smash Channel U and MTV Base track 'Perfect Girl' which he performed live along with hosting too.
Saturday i had other business aside from music to attend to!
Sunday i was up at 8.30am to head up to Donnington Park in Nottingham for the annual BPM event. BPM showcases all the latest in DJ technology and also has all of the biggest names down there such as Pioneer, Denon and DMC. I headed straight for the DMC stand where i watched Skully do his thing! Shouts to DJ Cable, Switch, Loop Skywalker, Rafik (who i haven't caught up with since winning the CK ONE event last November) and the legend Cutmaster Swift. It was big! Oh and you know that mixer that Semtex rocks on Dizzie's tour? The SVM 1000, i tried it out and its illllll!!
Monday night was the Young DJ of The Year competition, i was up against 2 other big under 18 DJ's. In the house was MTV, Models 1 and the cast of Hollyoaks. I was up 2nd and i killed it! I was soso nervous, i was up infront of thousands of screaming people... the last thing i wanted to do was clear the floor! So i won and got the prize of a Wii given to me by 'Kiran' from Hollyoaks... i don't actually watch it so i didn't have a clue who he was but still. The rest of the prize included contacts with London's biggest promoters... keep it locked on here for more info! So its official, i am the Young DJ of The Year 2008!
Now back to my college work...
